What You Need to Know About the Cities of El Centro and Calexico

calexico manufacturing

If you’re considering relocating manufacturing operations closer to home, there are several excellent options near the border of the U.S and Mexico. The number of companies choosing Mexico for manufacturing is increasing each year, and large brands such General Motors, Honeywell, and Medtronic are flourishing here. As you begin your search for a manufacturing partner, it’s important to be aware of what each region offers. El Centro and Calexico are two locations within the U.S. that offer unique strengths, which we’ll outline below. If you’re thinking about partnering with a Mexico-based production facility, the CaliBaja manufacturing team would love to help. We have several locations, and we’ll work with you to determine the best option for your project.

El Centro and Calexico Offer Logistical Advantages

El Centro and Calexico are border cities on the U.S. side. Located in California, these towns are becoming instrumental in transport between Mexico and the United States–and it’s even possible to manufacture goods here. Some manufacturing companies (CaliBaja included!) have plants in California, close to Mexico.

If you’re thinking about finding a manufacturing hub in or near Mexico, it may be advantageous to work with a facility close to these towns. Calexico and El Centro offer significant logistical benefits, including ease of access to major highways to simplify shipping. Since this area is experiencing growth and increased demand for freight, there are several major infrastructure projects underway. One of these projects will modernize and expand Calexico’s West Land Port of Entry, located at the junction of California’s State HIghway 111 and Calle State Highway 111 in Mexico. An expansion of the bridge for Calexico’s East Port of Entry is well underway, and will add four northbound lanes, two commercial vehicle lanes, and two passenger vehicle lanes. Both of these projects are exciting (and much-needed) developments for the Calexico area, as traffic is expected to nearly double by 2025.
